RYE CYCLE STUDY
REG commissioned a study of cycling and walking facilities in and around Rye in September 2011. This cost £350 and was carried out by by Nick Hanna. The funds came from REG’s transport fund.
Nick’s report was prepared and presented to the Committee and it was clear that there were a number of possible schemes that could really make a difference.
Nick was asked by the committee to apply for a grant from the RWE Wind Farm Community fund. This fund distributes £60,000 each year to local community goups and organisations within a certain radius of the RWE wind farm on Romney Marsh. The allocation of funds is managed by the Sussex Community Foundation who have set up a local panel of volunteers to decide which projects should be funded.
REG was delighted to be awarded a grant of £1,600 this was topped up by another contributions from our transport fund of £350 so we had enough funds to ask Nick to prepare the more detailed studies and feasibility assessments.
This has now been done and they can be seen at the following links.
There is a lot yet to do but we are very encouraged by the reaction and are hopeful that the funding will be found
