Tuesday 31st May: 7.30pm: The Quality of Our Bathing Water

Talk by Barry Woodham and Rob Butson on The Quality of Our Bathing Water.

Sea bathers were advised recently that our bathing waters were polluted. REG are delighted that on 31st May we welcome Rob Thurston and Barry Woodham who will explain the efforts Southern Water make to ensure our seas are safe for bathers.

Rob Thurston manages the Southern Water in-house Misconnections Team. The team was formed in January 2019 to pro-actively investigate the surface water sewers in bathing water locations across Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Using a range of techniques, they aim to identify properties (domestic & business) with wastewater connected to the surface water sewer. By successfully stopping household waste from entering the environment, local watercourses bathing water can benefit greatly.

Barry Woodham works with the bathing water team which is also working to improve bathing water quality across our entire region, which benefits all users of coastal waters.
